Joe Lee Powell

 

He has served on the Eutaw City Council for the past eight years. He is employed by the Shelton State Community College as a GED Instructor. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (History) from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

He cites the progress he has helped the city make in the past four years.

*Spent about $80,000 on the roads in Branch Heights and King Village four year (Mayor Steele voted “no”.

*Purchased six new police cars.

*Given city employees raises (Mayor Steele voted “no”.

*Eliminated the administrative assistant position to save money (Mayor Steele voted “no”.

*Helped get a grant for a Safe Route to School (Carver Middle School).

*Funded E-911 over $60,000.

*Purchased equipment for City Works Department.

*Hired additional employees for the Water/Street and Police Departments.

*Voted  to stop the consolidating of the Eutaw and Greene County Housing Authority (Mayor Steele wanted  control.)

*In-kind  services for City employees to help with the new Greene County High School.

*Voted to add water and sewer line on Lock Seven  (Mayor Steele voted no).

*Voted to apply for an  ATRIP  Grant for roads in Branch Heights (Mayor Steele voted no).
