In correspondence dated July 12, 2012, the U.S. Justice Department, Voting Rights Section, informed the Greene County Commission’s attorney it does not object to Act No. 2012-422 (S.B. 564) (2012), which authorizes Greene County to conduct a special ad valorem tax election for a 3 mill increase.

As part of the pre-clearance procedure, Greene County Commission Attorney Hank Sanders submitted the proposed ad valorem tax referendum to the Voting Rights Section of the U.S. Justice Department on June 1, 2012.

The proposed 3 mill ad valorem tax enacted by the Alabama Legislature in May, 2012  will appear on the Greene County ballot for the November 6, 2012 General Election.
