On Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 5 – 6 p.m. the Greene County Chapter of SCLC will celebrate the political changes that took place on July 29, 1969. This is when Blacks gained political control in Greene County.

Special invited speakers are Rev. Thomas Gilmore, Dr. H. K. Matthews, Rev. Wendell Paris and Rev.  Jack  Zilman.

Other special honored panelists include:

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hines, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Turner, Sr., Mrs. Annie Armstead, Mrs. Muggie King, Mrs. Sarah Duncan, Mrs. Geneva Chambers, Mrs. Rosie Carpenter, Mrs. Lula Davis, Mr. Nick Underwood and Mrs. Geraldine Sands.

 Others who are being honored are Rev and Mrs. William Branch, Mr. Harry Means, Mrs. Edna Chambers, Mrs. Earlean  Isaac, Mr. Finest Miles, Mrs. Lula Cook, Mrs. Johnnie Knott, Mrs. Julia Farmer and Mrs. Lovella  Murray.

The program invites and urges all elected officials, appointed officials, ministers, community leaders and all residents of Greene County to attend.

We will celebrate and observe  43 years of  political changes that we call “Freedom Day” for Greene County. The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. and will be held at the William M. Branch Courthouse in Eutaw.

There will be music, food and fellowship.

“We hope to see a large crowd here on July 29,” said Spiver W.  Gordon, President of the Greene County Chapter of SCLC.
