The City of Eutaw and Mayor Raymond Steele hosted the 40th Anniversary of the Alabama Black Mayors Conference and the quarterly meeting of ACBM, Friday, June 8, 2012. Mayor Raymond Steele of Eutaw serves as the current President of the organization with over 40 members in the state.

The full day program included various informational workshops on topics relevant to municipal leaders.  The gathering of mayors, councilpersons and other guests heard a detailed presentation on The Fair Campaign Practices Act: What Municipal Candidates Need to Know.

Attorney Lori Lein, General Counsel for the Alabama League of Municipalities, detailed the steps and responsibilities for qualifying for municipal elections and for candidates during the campaign process.

Greg Cochran, Director of Intergovernmental Relations for the Alabama League of Municipalities, reported on various legislative bills supported by League.

Brandon Comer, Managing Partner of Comer Capital Group, LLC, focused his presentation on refinancing debt.

More than 250 people attended the Black Tie dinner and dance to honor all of the mayors. The dinner was held in the beautifully decorated and newly air conditioned National Guard Armory in Eutaw.

Pictured above are the mayors from throughout the state that attended Friday’s events which included informational workshops, a bar-b-cue lunch, business meeting and a Black Tie Dinner to honor the founding mayors of the association – Johnny Ford of Tuskegee and A. J. Cooper of Pritchard, Alabama.
