Hundreds are expected to gather in Montgomery on Saturday, June 30, 2012 to make sure Alabama does not go back to the past. Leaders from 27 organizations have come together in what they call SOS (Save Our Selves Summit). The thrusts of the Summit is to form a stronger coalition across social, class, age, gender and other lines of differences to prevent Alabama from moving backward and instead to move forward.
Actions by the Alabama Legislature on issues dealing with immigration, workers rights, voting, public education, women’s rights and other issues spurred these organizations to come together in November of 2011 for the First Summit. The Summit on June 30th is a follow up to build a stronger coalition.
Senator Hank Sanders, one of the SOS leaders said, “No one will save us but us. If we come together, we can not only stop Alabama from sliding back to the past but move Alabama forward to a future where all its citizens can rise to their best potential.”
The Summit begins at 9:00 a.m. at Alabama State University in the Ralph David Abernathy Auditorium. Any citizen interested in moving Alabama forward are invited to attend and participate in the Summit.
