At the May 14 call meeting of the Greene County Board of Education several decisions were made toward construction of the new high school, including:
*The Program Budget was revised from $10,661,000 to $18,500,000 to allow for partial design of Phase 3 of the new High School facility. Based on potential available funds the total fund budget will only be 18 – 19 million dollars.
*Revised Phase 1 from the current Board-approved amount of $10,661,000 to $13,625,000 based on current available funds.
*Approved Architect Amendment 1 and fee Proposal for Phase 2 Programs (Auditorium, Career Center, Athletic Fields, Football Field House) in the amount of $518,999,99 which is 6.1% of the 8.1 million construction. This is the recommended architect fee percentage from the Building Commission.
*Approved Architect fee proposal for furniture for Phase 1 of the new High School in the amount of $40,000.
*Approved TCU Contract change order for management of Phase 2 Programs and US 11 Construction Projects in the amount of $390,000 and the time increase of 337 days.
*Provided a Third-Party Engineer review of Co-op property drives due to be affected by US Hwy 11 road project in support of new GCHS project.
*Approved travel for board members Lester Brown and Bobbi Morgan to NSBA Southern Region Conference in Biloxi, MS on July 23-26, 2012.
*Approved travel for Ms. Sharon Jennings, Acting Principal at Eutaw Primary, and Mrs. Sadie Moore, Early Childhood Coordinator at Eutaw Primary on June 4-7, 2012. The funding source is Save the Children.
*Approved a request from PARA to use Peter J. Kirksey (contract to be negotiated).
*Approved a four-day work week (Monday -Thursday) June 1- July 31 2012).
*Approved a revised school calendar for 2012 – 2013.
*Approved a contract between the Greene County Board of Education and Helping Hands for physical therapy services.
Personnel items approved by the Board included:
*Non-renewal of of Mrs. Sheanell as long-term sub at Carver; Eugene Foster at Carver; Loydleeta Wabbigton at Eutaw Primary; Linda Alford, Koto Darpolar, and Ross Wabbington at Greene County High School and Tiffany Bishop at Paramount Jr. High;
*Retirement of Dr. Hariett Lewis as Principal at Carver Middle School effective June 1, 2012;
*Retirement of Rosie Aaron as Bus Driver for the system effective May 31, 2012;
*Employment of Patricia Coleman as manager for the Summer Feeding Program beginning June 1, 2012 and ending June 29, 2012 (separate contract);
*Employment of Jackie Pickens as cook/janitor for the Summer Feeding Program beginning June 1, 2012 and ending June 29, 2012;
*Employment of Leola Smith as cook/janitor for the Summer Feeding Program beginning June 1, 2012 and ending June 29, 2012;
*Employment of Clara Simmons as cook/janitor for the Summer Feeding Program beginning June 1, 2012 and ending June 29, 2012;
*Employment of Linda Moore as cook/janitor for the Summer Feeding Program beginning June 1, 2012 and ending June 29, 2012;
