On April 17, 2012, Belle Mere Properties  filed bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Alabama.  The company also filed for bankruptcy in   Greene County Circuit Court.

While  most people  won’t recognize this name – Belle Mere did business as Frontier Bingo, the first bingo hall to open in  competition with Greenetrack. The suit was filed by Atty. Herbert M. Newell, III.

They were also the only bingo hall, other than Greenetrack, to be raided. by Attorney General  Luther Strange  in 2011. Machines at Frontier were seized, just as were the ones at Greenetrack.

According to the  bankruptcy papers obtained from  the Greene County Circuit Court, “In most instances, the filing of the bankruptcy automatically stays  certain collection  and other actions against the debtor and the debtor’s property. If you attempt to collect a debt or take  other action in violation of the Bankruptcy Code, you may be penalized. If you  are a creditor of the debtor, you will receive an additional notice from the court setting forth important deadlines.”

Frontier Bingo initially began operations in the spring of 2011; was closed in the June raid by Alabama  Attorney General  Luther Strange and  their machines confiscated.

In March, 2012, they  paid the back distribution money, which amounted to $39,240, and were allowed to reopen by Sheriff Jonathan Benison..

Despite the bankruptcy, Frontier is still operating as a bingo hall.

At  press time, The Democrat was  unable to discover whether or not Frontier would be able to meet the next distribution schedule designed by Sheriff Joe Benison, and if not, would Benison  close the business.
