The Save Ourselves Summit II scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Miles College in Fairfield, AL will be rescheduled, according to Dr. Roberta Watts, ANSC State President and chairperson of Summit organizing committee.
“Conflicting events on the same date, including the Women’s Rally in Montgomery and the Young Democrats meeting in Selma; slow mobilization by SOS members; challenges with site logistics and work related to other events coming up to the April 28 Summit date, led to the decision to reschedule the Summit II gathering,” explained Dr. Watts.
“Representatives of the 25 sponsoring organizations are very engaged people. We are trying to participate in many projects essential to bringing significant changes to Alabama. Run-off elections in the state were scheduled for April 24; a delegation of SOS supporters were traveling to participate in the immigration rally in Washington, D.C. on April 25 and the subsequent meeting with the U.S. Justice Department concerning voting rights on April 26; the Black Immigration Conference was also scheduled for April 25 among all these events,” she stated.
According to Dr. Watts, the Summit II will be rescheduled for late June, with Birmingham still the considered host city. Follow-up information will be publicized in the near future.
