Due to the  underfunding of the Judicial Branch of Government and the lay-off of Court specialists in every court, the Greene County Circuit Clerk’s Office has been forced to cut the weekly hours  that it is open to the public.

According to Circuit Clerk Etta Edwards the new hours will be:

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Thursday – 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Friday – Closed all day.

According to Mrs  Edwards. “I am asking you to please understand our situation and work with us to be able to keep our court system running in Greene County. The Circuit Clerk’s office is the hub of the Judicial System and the well being of each and everyone is extremely important to me. I will continue to work each day to do so.”

Edwards said that with the staff cut-back, it would be impossible to process the paper-work and be available to the public 40 hours a week. She will be functioning with herself and one employee to conduct the operations of the Circuit Clerk’s office.

This was necessitated by an Administrative Order from Chief Sue Bell Cobb directing the Circuit Clerks to close their offices to the public up to 10 hours per week during normal business hours.
