The Greene County Commission held a very productive meeting on Monday night.

According to CFO Paula Bird, the General Fund was in good shape, but she warned the commissioners that the General Fund  had already collected 65% of their yearly income and they must be careful with the monies they have.

The fund that is in the worst shape is the solid waste fund and already $10,000 has been transferred from the General Fund to this fund,

In other business, the commission:

*Was advised that the restricting plan approved by the commission had been approved. This means that the voting districts will remain the same as they were in the 2010 election.

*Approved  a request from County Engineer Arlon Abrams to advertise for one equipment operators class 2, one equipment operator, class 1 and one laborer and approved a reallocation of expenditures from the Public Works Department from one line item to another to cover negative balances.

*Approved advertising for the position of RSVP Coordinator.

*Approved the ad valorem tax millage at the same rate as last year.

*Approved travel  for the County Engineer and Assistant County Engineer; for Darlene Robinson; for Probate Judge Earlean Isaac; and for Coroner Kent Smith to attend various conferences dealing with duties related to their job responsibility. The final item on the agenda was a plea from Director of the Greene County DHR Wilson Morgan for additional people willing to be foster parents.

According to Morgan, there were  6,000 foster children placed in homes in Alabama, but in Greene County there were only 10 “because we don’t have enough foster parents.”I appeal to the community as a whole – there is a great need,” said Morgan. He asked anyone who was willing to serve as foster parents to phone 372-5000 and talk to him or the case workers.

The agenda being completed, Chairman Underwood asked for public comment.

Once again Animal Cruelty Officer Bonnie Sue Miller begged the commission and the community to help her with the many stray abandoned animals in Greene County. She admitted that she should have attended last month’s meeting and once again asked the commission to visit her shelter for abandoned animals.

There being no other business, the  meeting  adjourned
