Greene County Sheriff Joe Benison announced recently that he had made changes in his bingo rules and regulations in order to include the Greene County School System in the distributions.

The school board will receive $45 per machine in the regular disbursements which are  made monthly.

In order to obtain this sum, several entities’ allotments were reduced.

The Greene County Commission, which had been receiving $95 per machine will now receive $80 per machine.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department will now receive $30 per machine – a decrease of $5.

The City of Eutaw will also lose $5 per machine, going from $20 to $15 per machine.

All of the other towns – Boligee, Forkland, and Union – will continue to receive $10 per machine.

This adds up to $200 per month per bingo machine that will go to benefit different entitites in Greene County.

Benison said that he was a graduate of the Greene County School System and was aware that more money was needed to better educate our youth.

“I talked to Superintendent Louie, Board Attorney Senator Hank Sanders and all of the board members,” said Benison, “And decided that this was a needed action. I want to do everything in my power to help Greene County as a whole.”

Benison also admitted, when questioned, that he had issued a new license  to hold electronic bingo games, but would not discuss when it would go into effect. This would bring the total number of operating bingo licenses to three.
