On Tuesday, January 17, over $71,000 was distributed by Sheriff Joe Benison to the various entities he had selected as recipients of money from electronic bingo at Greenetrack and Greene Charity Bingo in the month of December.The money was allotted as follows:

Greene County Sheriff’s Department – $10,471,77 from Greenetrack and $3,500 from Greene Charity Bingo; Greene County Commission – $28,423.38 from Greenetrack and $9,500 from Greene Charity Bingo; City of Boligee – $2,991.94 from Greenetrack and $1,000 from Greene Charity Bingo; City of Eutaw – $5,983,87 from Greenetrack and $2,000 from Greene Charity Bingo; City of Forkland – $2,991,94 from Greenetrack and $1,000 from Greene Charity Bingo; and City of Union – $2,991.94 from Greenetrack and $1,000 from Greene Charity Bingo.

When he took office, Benison initiated a revised formula to distribute the bingo money which taxes bingo machines to benefit the political entities and the Sheriff’s office. The Greene County School System and most non-profit organizations currently receive no bingo resources.
