Dr. Emma Louie was selected as superintendent of the Greene County School System at a continued meeting of the school board held Monday, November 28, 2011. Dr. Louie, who has served as Interim Superintendent of Greene County Schools since July of this year, was awarded a three year contract beginning December 1, 2011. In its selection, the board stated that no exceptional candidate had emerged other than the Interim Superintendent.
The board’s adopted motion stated, “Since each Board member has reviewed all the applications to fill the vacancy in the Superintendent position for the Greene County Board of Education and there being no exceptional candidates other than the interim superintendent, I move that a superintendent be selected immediately pursuant to the process and timelines adopted, amended and announced in open Board meetings.”
A subsequently adopted motion by the board stated, “I move that the Board select Dr. Emma Louie as Superintendent of the Greene County School System with a three year term commencing December 1, 2011 and ending November 30, 2014 and hereby approve the contract between the Board and the Superintendent and authorize the Board President to execute the contract on behalf of the Board.”
The board members also discussed a proposed amendment to the current Greene County Bingo Rules and Regulations which could serve to provide funds to the Greene County Board of Education. Greene County Sheriff Jonathan Benison, who decides on the Bingo Rules and Regulations for Greene County, is considering additional changes to levy assessments on authorized organizations conducting electronic bingo in the county to benefit the schools. The amount to be assessed for the Board of Education on each bingo machine, electronic player station or player terminal has not been determined.
Sheriff Benison considers bingo funds for school system
The board’s response to the proposal, submitted on behalf of Sheriff Benison by his attorney Flint Liddon, stated that the school system should receive at least as much as the highest amount given to any other governmental entity, which at this time is the Greene County Commission. The School Board further stated that this should be accomplished without reducing bingo funding for any other governmental agency.
It was also noted that providing financial support for the Greene County School System was the main reason for the original passage of the Bingo Amendment #743.
