Sheriff Jonathan “Joe” Benison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department announced the hiring of Marlos Jackson as the new School Resource Officer for Carver Middle School. Jackson is a lifelong resident of Forkland, AL and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben and Julia Jackson, also of Forkland.

Jackson graduated from Paramount High School in 1999 and studied  air conditioning/refrigeration for a year and a half at Shelton State Community College. He is a former employee of Mercedes Benz of Vance, AL. He is a member of Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Forkland.

“This appointment will be the first ever appointment of this position at Carver Middle School in  Greene County history. As Sheriff of this great county I made a commitment during my campaign that I would like to hire a School Resource Officer in every school. I have fulfilled one of my promises pertaining to this and I have more endeavors to accomplish  for the citizens of Greene County,” said Benison.

Jackson will be at Carver to insure the safety of the students and faculty and provide campus security.

 “I am really excited about this position with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department,” said Jackson “I feel that with this position, I can serve and protect my community as well as give back.”

Jackson will have to complete the Basic Police Training Course in accordance with Section 7, Subsection C, Legislative Act of 1981 amending Act 156 Alabama Law within six months to remain in good standing.

The addition of Jackson brings the total number of deputies up to 11.

When school is out, Jackson will serve as a regular deputy.
