Following a hearing on possible changes in the voting districts in Greene County, the commission decided to table any decision on  these changes until more clarity could be achieved and their attorney had done some investigation into the matter.

CFO Paula Bird presented the commission  a financial report.

She told them that there had been a large decrease in the bank balance from September to October due to transfering the money to provide matching funds for various grants. Workman’s Comp was also paid in October.

However, she also told them that money would begin to arrive and that the county’s bank account would soon be back to normal.

County Attorney Hank Sanders advised the commission that he needed to file a motion of intervention in the Alabama Department of  Revenue vs. Greenetrack. He reminded them that 1/2 the land on which Greenetrack was located belonged to the county. “The chairman suggested that I look into this to try to protect the county’s land,” said Sanders.

In other business, the commission:

*Ratified a contract between Marilyn Armistead and the Greene County Commission on grant applications.

*Authorized submitting a grant application to UWA Division of Outreach Services for community and economic professional service grants.

*Approved a joint application between the county and the Board of Education to the Alabama Department of Public Health for a $20,000 grant which will be used to  put a walking trail and other upgrades in Boligee Park.

*Tabled action regarding hiring an Accounts Payable Clerk. Chairman  Underwood said that the CFO had advised him that existing personnel might be able to handle the workload.

*Approved travel for Commissioner Elzora Fluker to attend an Economic Class in Prattville.

*Approved travel for Commissioners Fluker and  Allen Turner to attend a Regional Conference in Meridian, MS.

*Approved travel for Chairman Underwood to a Legislative Committee meeting and a Board of Trustees meeting.

*Allowed the commissioners, the County Engineer and Asst. Engineer to attend the Annual Legislative Conference in Auburn.

*Approved  a Participation Agreement with the Association of County Commissions Alabama Liability Self Insurance Fund.

*Approved December 23 and 26 as employee Christmas holidays and Monday, January 2 as New Year’s holiday.

*Approved purchase of top soil to close out the landfill.

*Amended the Highway Department Budget to purchase equipment and make repairs.

*Approved a bid for anti-freeze and lube oil.

*Following discussion, decided to institute legal action to collect delinquent garbage bills. Only five people took advantage of the amnesty period that had been offered, leaving a large  balance unpaid.

During public comment, a citizen asked for clarification of the tabling on deciding on voting districts. The commissioners are not allowed to reply to public comment, so no answer was given.

A citizen of Mt. Hebron advised the commission that he lived on a dirt road that had not be scraped in two years.

E-911 Iris Sermon saluted Commissioner Allen Turner and the Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church for providing a shelter other than the Eutaw Activity Center. The Lloyd Chapel Shelter is open day and night.
