L-R are Greene County High Basketball Coach Rodney Wesley, Merchants & Farmers Bank employee Ann Mize and Reginald Cheatem

On  2010, the Greene County High School Tigers’ basketball team won the state championship in 3A Basketball, beating Madison Academy 61-44.

This was the second state championship that a Greene County High School basketball team had won in six years. The Tigers won the 4A championship in 2005.

But the 2010 team has yet to be able to buy the rings that proclaim they are champions.

These rings cost $500 each and with the economy in the shape it is, Coach Wesley said that team members simply cannot afford to purchase them.

He got together with local businessman Reginald  Cheatem and the two men decided to ask the public to help the team members get these rings to commemorate the honor they brought to Greene County.

They set up an account at Merchants and Farmers Bank where contributions can be mailed.

Anyone wanting to help with this effort can sent their donation to:

“Any amount is welcome,” said Wesley, ”Those young men played their hearts out and they deserve to be able to wear the ring that proclaims them the champions they are.
