A court hearing pertaining to the illegal raids at Greenetrack is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 6 at the Greene County Courthouse.

It will be followed by a community town hall meeting held by the National Action Network in regards to the disenfranchisement of Greene County voters by the state of Alabama. A representative from the U. S. Justice Department and from Congresswoman Terri Sewell will be present at the hearing and meeting.

Nat Winn, CEO of Greenetrack, said, “Your presence at these hearings is very important. This is an opportunity to show your support regarding the loss of your votes pursuant to Amendment 743 and how you have been affected economically, i.e. loss of jobs, insurance, business, etc.

“This is our civil rights movement. We honor those who died in the sixties for our right to vote by protecting what they died for. ‘The hottest place in hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict.’ … Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Congresswoman Terri Sewell, after receiving petitions from over 2,000 Greene County residents,  wrote  to U. S. Atty. Gen Eric Holder concerning electronic bingo and voting rights infringements in Greene County.

In her letter she says, “On June 15th, I received a petition signed by over 2,000 citizens of the 7th Congressional District of Alabama requesting that the Department of Justice investigate potential voting rights infringements. In 2003, the citizens of Greene County overwhelmingly passed an amendment authorizing the usage of electronic bingo in Greene County. The petitioning citizens have expressed concerns about a series of raids on bingo facilities located within Greene County that resulted in the loss of over 500 jobs. As a result of these raids, my constituents believe that their voting rights have been infringed upon and request assistance from the Department of Justice.”
