Following an extended executive session during a special meeting held June 6, the Greene County Board of Education selected an applicant to possibly serve as the Greene County High School Principal.  This initial selection did not have the unanimous support of the board.  Board member Lester Brown tried to have the recommendation tabled until the next regular board meeting, but this failed on a 3 / 2 vote.

The vote to accept the superintendent’s recommendation regarding the applicant for the principal’s position was a tie with board members Bobbie Morgan and Frank Smith voting yes and board members Lester Brown and Morris Hardy voting no. Board chairperson, Leo Branch, broke the tie in favor of the person recommended by Superintendent Isaac Atkins.

When this selection was voted on, the board members had not had the opportunity to meet and talk with the applicant or to review extensive background information.

At press time, the Superintendent’s office informed the Democrat that she was not prepared to release the name of the prospective personnel.

The superintendent and the board are continuing the process of selecting a principal for Greene County High School
