Cars lined the streets, filled the parking lots and the line of people filling out forms to apply for Disaster Food Assistance was out on the sidewalk most of the day last Tuesday, May 24.

Cars lined the street, the parking lot was full and the Eutaw Activity Center was full on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24th and 25th.

On that day, citizens were allowed to sign up for Disaster Food Assistance.

This program was designed to help people who would not ordinarily qualify for food assistance, but have lost income or have losses due to damage from a disaster,

A household could get from $200 to $1,202 (depending on household size)  in food assistance if they are eligible for the program.

The household must be in one of the areas which has been declared a disaster area and the occupants must meet certain income qualifications.

Many people in the local area qualified because the wide spread power outages caused by the storms that ravaged the area caused them to lose food in refrigerators and freezers.
